Yesterday during the vetting of the nominee for the Ministry of Interior I decried the unjust method of recruiting into the security agencies being undertaken by the Minister and his security agencies. I expressed disgust at what is happening as a method of recruitment now.
Answering questions on recruitment to the security agencies, the nominee who has been the Minister of Interior for the past four years revealed that the security agencies have been relying on a list of applications to join the security agencies obtained about 3 years ago. According to him, they advertised for recruitment and what was to be done online. Tens of thousands of Ghanaian youth applied and the Minister was summoned by the then Council of State who suggested that they should exhaust that list. The Minister nominee – Hon Ambrose Dery claims that since then they have been drawing from that backlog to train for enrollment into the security agencies.
I told him in no uncertain terms that that was unjust and improper and must stop immediately because Youth who have become eligible to apply for recruitment into the security agencies since that initial recruitment 3 years ago are unjustly left out. The Nominee responded that it is not a policy of the youth and he does not think it will be the approach going forward.
